Genuine Intelligence is a digital art collection. No AI art or Chat GPT is used to create any of it. The perspectives are all human and the comment section is swept to be free of robots. Quite frankly we don’t really care what they think about human digital art. It does not concern them. This site is a love letter. To the talented people who choose to forgo the short cut or take credit for something they clearly dit not create.
Background
My name is Adam. I am recognized by Canada Council for the Arts as a Canadian Digital Visual Artist. A title that I earned. I was born in the early 1970’s and grew up to witness the birth of personal computers and subsequently the emergence of digital art. The very moment that I touched a computer all I wanted to do was make art with it. If you want to be technical about it, I have been Digital Artist since I was a kid.
Living in Burlington Ontario, my school had a Commodore PET computer. After some time with a dedicated teacher, I learned the basics of the computer language “Basic”. From there, I designed a multiplication game using random numbers and graphics. Using the playing card suits that came with the operating system, I made my very first game. The 2 of hearts times the 5 of clubs equals… And like magic, imputed answers would be rewarded with a simple “correct” or “incorrect” graphic. This was nothing short of alchemy for a young me.
I set the parameters and the computer followed them. In this definition, the computer is behaving as a tool. An instrument wielded by a human intelligence.
Over my 30+ year career as a Creative Director and Canadian Digital Visual Artist, I have seen many tools come and go. All of them had one thing in common: Each were controlled by humans. The outcomes were human made because they involved tools with no intelligence. The title of AI Artist does not properly define people who use AI image generators. We use the term AI Art Director because it more accurately defines the action of prompting AI Art.
AI art is not a tool. Tools don’t think. Stop using that word to define it.
Human artistic culture is important. Intermingling soulless emulations of human creativity with the human artistic record is a mistake. It dilutes the artistic achievements of real Artists and designers. The exponential growth of AI Art will eventually overtake our own story. Evidence of this is clear.
We fight for the living
Make no mistake, AI Art Generators are designed to “…deskill, disempower and eventually replace real, human artists.” We also see no ethical way to use AI Art. This site leans into this position. For some, especially those who use and share AI Art, this can be offensive or combative. Our intention is not to be. But to start a conversation. Perhaps get other digital artists and designers to see it from another human perspective.
The first step has to be an agreement of reality. There is no reason to be offended once you acknowledge that by prompting an AI for a generative image you are not making anything. You are requesting it to be made for you. By another intelligence other than your own.

We also understand that the time to control AI has passed. Our focus is on the now. Genuine Intelligence is a digital art collection devoid of AI Art and a chronicle of this time period from a human perspective. This is a moment. Perhaps the most important moment in human artistic culture. How you choose to behave with AI Art is a personal decision. We choose to oppose it.
